Shuttleworth College Equine Centre receives extra funding

Shuttleworth College's Equine Centre is a regionally recognised (British Horse Society approved) Show Centre providing equestrian training and holding competitive events each month of the year.  With extra funding from the Shuttleworth Trust event facilities will be improved to welcome even more competitors and visitors.

The Equine Centre hosts a variety of events including monthly show jumping and dressage competitions.  The extra funding will be used to improve and extend car parking space available so that more people will be able attend and take part in the events.  The Equine Centre boasts two indoor arenas and purpose-built stabling with a range of quality horses.

Shuttleworth College runs a range of equine courses from three hour weekend courses to one and two year full-time BTEC courses in Horse Management which combine practical experience with theory.  The courses help students gain a range of skills including riding, stable management, equine sciences and nutrition.  The centre also offers part-time evening courses focusing on British Horse Society stage exams and weekend courses which cover a range of topics including horse massage, lower leg anatomy and show preparation.

Shuttleworth students gain excellent hands-on experience of work in the industry and many go on to higher education or careers in the industry.

Sally Kidd (Equine Course Manager) said:

“The College has a wide range of horses to encourage further development of rider skills together  with experienced staff in our excellent facilities, including two indoor schools.  The extra funding we have received will improve the event facilities on site here which is essential as Shuttleworth is a competition centre.  The monthly competitions in show jumping and dressage are run by students, who also have the opportunity to compete in these events”

Shuttleworth College offers horse enthusiasts of all abilities the chance to brush up on their skills, take part in competitions or study towards nationally recognised qualifications.  With a wide range of courses on offer from three hours to three years of study, there is something here for everyone.
