Shuttleworth College students jumped to first place at an
Equine Inter-College competition.

The event included show jumping and a theory
quiz. Shuttleworth triumphed in both areas over eight other
colleges at the event in Northants.
The winning team were: Lauren Cardines,
Emily Stretch, Sophie Comar, Antonia Neal, Izzy Bush, Michelle
Ball, Chelsea Boschert and Sophie Ambrose.
The Equine Inter-College trophy now has pride
of place in the Shuttleworth College Equine Centre, a nationally
recognised (British Horse Society approved) Show Centre providing
equestrian training and staging competitive events each month of
the year including show jumping and dressage competitions.
Shuttleworth College runs a range of equine
courses from three hour weekend courses to one and two year full
time BTEC courses in Horse Management which combine practical
experience with theory. The courses help students gain a
range of skills including riding, stable management, equine
sciences and nutrition. The centre also offers part-time
evening courses of 10 weeks, focusing on British Horse Society
stage exams, and three hour weekend courses which cover a range of
topics including horse massage, lower leg anatomy and show
preparation.
Equine Lecturer, Phil Wells,
who accompanied the students said:
“We are delighted to have won the Equine
Inter-College competition and the trophy reflects the skills of our
students and staff who were up against stiff competition from other
colleges. Taking part in competitions gives students the
chance to build skills and confidence that will stand them in good
stead as they begin their careers.”
